Flight Attendant Open Forum Comes To Honolulu
"Advancing Our Profession" - Open Forum Series Continues
[09.11.07] -- AFA-CWA International Vice President Veda Shook will hosted a Flight Attendant Open Forum on September 11, 2007 in Honolulu, Hawaii, as part of a series of participatory meetings, themed "Advancing Our Profession." The most recent Flight Attendant Open Forum held in Honolulu on September 11 was marked by the anniversary of events that took place six years prior.
Approximately 50 flight attendants from Hawaiian, Northwest, Aloha and United began the meeting by honoring the first victims of 9-11-2001, the flight attendants. The names of those flight attendants were read aloud and a moment of silence was observed in their honor.
Shane Larson, AFA-CWA Government Affairs Director, read a letter (see below) from Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) commending "our nation's flight attendants for their commitment to ensure the safety and security of our nation's travelers." Larson gave a comprehensive overview of AFA-CWA's activities in the legislative arena.
Special thanks to Hawaiian and Aloha MECs for the leis they presented to (left to right) Shane Larson, Collective Bargaining Director Clare Burt, Int'l Vice President Veda Shook, and Int'l Staff Rep. Suzanne Kirkpatrick.
The Open Forum was launched earlier this year and has proven to be a venue for dynamic, interactive exchanges between AFA-CWA members and their LEC, MEC and International officers, as well as International staff. Each meeting includes a morning session, lunch and LEC strategy meetings. All AFA-CWA members from all carriers and bases are welcome to attend. Your questions and comments will be welcomed and encouraged!
