Clarification of Pacific Business Journal Article
Pacific Business Journal article regarding Aloha Airlines:
Click here: Aloha union lawyer says buyer will emerge - Pacific Business News (Honolulu):
[04.13.08] -- Many of you have inquired about the statements made in the article above so we want to offer some clarification. First, the attorney that is quoted is an attorney for the Unsecured Creditors’ Committee, not the union. We do have a seat on the Unsecured Creditors’ Committee, as do ALPA and IAM. Collectively the unions hold three of seven seats on the committee, so we do not form a majority of the committee. The committee’s function is to try to ensure the best possible return to the unsecured creditors of Aloha Airlines.
Of course we want the passenger operation to be revived and get our members back to work. We, along with our attorneys and advisors, have been able to persuade the Committee to advocate strongly for the Aloha passenger operation to be restarted, perhaps under new ownership if such an investor can be found. However, to date, no such investor has been identified and it is widely viewed as a long shot that our airline could be sold and restarted. We cannot rule out this possibility but we must also be realistic when it comes to future Aloha passenger operations. AFA stands ready to work on behalf of the Aloha flight attendants with any new owner of the passenger operation to facilitate a restart of the operation and to ensure its long-term success. If and when a buyer emerges that is willing to restart the passenger operation, we will give you the most up-to-date information available. In the meantime we encourage you to continue doing the things you need to do to secure your future.
